Movie Debriefing – Dark Knight

Like the rest of America – I have now seen Batman: The Dark Knight. Unlike most of the country I waited until this past weekend to catch the flick in the hopes of avoiding hour long waits for seats, or equally cramped theatres. Having arrived only 20 minutes prior to the showtime I got great seats and found that waiting 2 weeks was completely worth it. This movie is one of the most hyped movies that I can remember, and was no disappointment. Heath Ledger was genius – he took an empty evil character and truly gave him life and a personality. It was amazing to see this actor completely transform into this character so fully. I never felt at any point that I was watching Heath Ledger, it truly felt as though I was watching The Joker.  As he entered the screen your hair almost stood up with the anticipation of gore that would likely follow.

The Joker was one of the scariest characters cast on the silver screen and proved that Ledger was nothing short of amazing. Even without his untimely death I feel this role would still create as much as hype and this fanfare relating to The Joker character. It really was an amazing character to view. What really makes me wonder is if the studio had planned to create a sequel including The Joker prior to Ledger’s death. If I were a producer and studio I most definitely would have included a sequel based solely upon the genius acting that was presented by Ledger. The Joker character was scary, deep, confusing and wonderful all at once – it really amazed me.  Truly one of the best character acting roles and acting roles in general that I have seen in a movie in quite some time – if you haven’t seen it as of yet – definitely do.
